An annual art project in the Ruhr area in Germany has dozens of towns with several locations each participating in this fantastic show of international art. On 28 June it will culminate in a night session lasting from 6pm until 2 o´clock in the morning. Titled Extraschicht or „extra shift“ it will attract tens of thousands of people. Members of the ArtSurprise project will be present at the former coal mine Zollverein in Essen now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The ArtSurprise artists will show their work at Zollverein in Hall 2. Their presentation will include prototypes of miniature works of art which are sold via vending machines all over Europe. The prototypes which preceded the various series´ can be seen for the very first time.

Several show cases and glass cabinets will grant visitors a look behind the scenes of this European art project. There are documentaries and videos about the production process of the art works.

ARTSURPRISE will also present art in cooperation with international groups of artists from Afghanistan, Uruguay, Venezuela, Argentina and the United States of America.

From 6pm to 2 o´clock in the morning ArtSurprise will become part of the overall programme. The organizer Juan Petry will invite visitors to participate in an informative tour of the art project explaining stumbling blocks, tricks and curiosities.

The following video will demonstrate how one of those miniature works of art was created.

About landscape painter

Painting and drawing have been my passion from early childhood. I have attended numerous exhibitions in England and Germany. Presented with the Judges Award at a show I now have one of my paintings on permanent display at a museum in Greater London with growing sales and commissions.
