After finishing the boat house, the adjoining wall, and the boats in the middle distance I turned to the decaying boat and river bed in the foreground. I used raw umber to stipple down the pebbles with a well worn brush twisting and turning it to create a variety of textures. White was added to the raw umber for another layer of pebbles and burnt sienna and in some parts even prussian blue came into play for the darker areas.
I was able to employ the same colour mixes for the decaying boat itself. Larger areas were covered with a no.5 flat brush following the planks of the boat. Details and smaller areas saw me busy with a no.2 round brush which I had trimmed with my scissors to give it a very sharp point.
After a number of sessions I was able to send my customer another photo to let him know about the progress.
I´ll post the next steps asap.
