Our NAROMA Art Club are preparing an exhibition at a shopping centre in a nearby town. We contacted the centre organizers about vacancies. These days so many premises have been left abandoned as shoppers are buying online more and more.
One day people may realize that it is much more fun to see the things they want to buy in reality rather than on the small screen of a mobile phone. Also carbon emissions could be reduced if delivery vans did not have to travel around with returned goods when buyers find they did not like what they bought online. Furthermore we ought to be aware that millions of returned goods are simply destroyed.
Back to our plans. The centre organizers have been very helpful in persuading the property owner to let us rent the shop for a very reasonable fee. We are now in the middle of organizing the exhibition for our members. There will be room for about 80 paintings large and small.
We are going to be able to hang paintings on the walls and also make use of some folding screens in our possession. Two large tables will be on display in the showroom windows for smaller paintings like still lifes and miniatures.
The shop will be brightly lit during opening hours referring interested parties to our online service for enquiries. On Saturdays the shop will be open and we are going to take turns manning it and painting live in front of the visitors.
Still a number of things have yet to be clarified, such as how are we going to get a large sign to put up above the shop windows. The photo shows a possible solution in virtual reality created on my PC. We also want to find out how much lighting is going to cost us as the shop is rather large. The two shop windows are 4m wide each with a 2m wide door in the middle. Furthermore we will have to contact the authorities about a licence since all profits will obviously be taxable.
Exciting times. Let´s see what happens when we open in October.
