What Brexit will mean for Artists

too late

As of now UK artists will just have another eleven months in which to exhibit their work in Europe without the formalities. As from 2021 it will become more of a hassle and also expensive. I remember the days in the eighties when I had to produce customs papers at the border joining the queues with lorry drivers. There used to be borders within Europe too. The papers had to be checked and stamped at every one of them both on entry and on exit. You will need papers even if the goods will be returned to you eventually.

Basic processing cost for an ATA carnet is £336.94. For further information you can click here.

So next year I will not be exhibiting in England any more unless the yet to be negotiated government´s deal will eliminate the paperwork and the cost. The effort involved will outweigh its benefits by far. I cannot expect my friends in England to go to the local customs office to collect my parcel and go through the same procedure in reverse to return my paintings.
